Roots, Rhythms & Ancestral Wisdom

“We inherit from our ancestors gifts so often taken for granted…

Each of us contains within… this inheritance of soul.

We are links between the ages, containing past and present expectations,

sacred memories and future promise.”

-Edward Sellner

Saturday 15th- we’ll begin with a myth to guide our day and then learn and practise techniques and ways for working with the ritual/medicine drum, and the healing power of rhythm. The drum has its own living spirit, so we’ll look at ways to tend to and deepen your relationship with the drum, how to listen to and be guided by it… and how to use it for seeking guidance or for healing, ritual/ceremony, prayer and celebration.

This is for anyone interested in learning and exploring more about working with the medicine or traditional frame drum, whether you have your own already or not. Perhaps you’re curious and would like to learn more before making or finding your own. I’ll have spares available for anyone to use and practise with on the day.

Sunday 16th- will be a day of connecting with your ancestral roots and the gifts and blessings of your genetic lineage.

All living indigenous cultures maintain strong relationships and connections to their ancestors. The sense of disconnection that’s so prevalent in modern times isn’t just disconnection from nature, but from our roots, our ancestry- cut adrift from the lineages that we belong to and the lands that our ancestors came from.

Our blood, bones and DNA hold memories and wisdom. We carry not just the unhealed traumas of our lines, but also the medicine, the resilience, the blessings and gifts. Honouring and acknowledging our bloodlines helps to restore right relations with the past, and can help us to move forward, connected more deeply to the roots of our belonging.

This day will be an introduction to ancestral work- where together we’ll explore basic practices to help deepen this connection and journey to meet with ancestral helpers and guides who are well in spirit. We’ll close with ceremony to honour the gifts passed to us and release patterns in our lineages that no longer serve.

Roots, Rhythms & Ancestral Wisdom will be held out at the lovely Downside Hall

Each day will be held from 10am-5pm.
