Transpersonal Counselling & Art Therapy

“Most people are afraid of suffering. But suffering is a kind of mud to help the lotus flower grow. There cannot be a lotus flower without the mud”

Thich Nhat Hanh

Transpersonal Counselling is a holistic approach to counselling that recognises and includes the spiritual dimension of our lives as significant, along with the physical, mental and emotional aspects.

A Transpersonal approach uses techniques such as guided meditation, drumming or movement, to help you connect into a deeper state, in order to access material from the unconscious and the subconscious. This enables you to discover and explore the unknown parts of yourself- the driving motivations beneath certain habits, patterns and behaviours, and to access hidden or dormant gifts, wisdom and potentials.

“we can sense a movement within to seek periods of reflection and to gain perspective, to stay in touch with our heart”

Jack Kornfield

Art Therapy then provides a variety of mediums for communicating and expressing your experience- you can use pastels, paint, clay, collage, sculpture, movement, sound or journaling. These are a wonderful way to give expression to that which may not be so easy to put into words. We then explore your creative expression as a doorway to tap into this deeper soul voice, to reveal insights and uncover meaning and new perspectives.

“There is a voice that doesn’t use words. Listen.”

Rumi

No artistic skill or experience is needed to benefit from Art Therapy. The focus is on the creative process and experience, rather than on the finished product.

Each session is as individual as each client. It can involve meditation, drum journeying, dream exploration, creative expression, movement, divination, or the mapping of your experience.

I use a client-centred approach, that recognises that you are the expert and authority on yourself, and hold within you, your own guidance and wisdom. My role is to walk alongside you and provide the space, support, mirroring and tools to help you to uncover and access this wisdom, and to integrate and embody this in your everyday life.

Who can benefit from a session?

Sessions can help with a wide range of issues such as: anxiety, depression, grief, building confidence and self-esteem, developing assertiveness and healthy boundaries, working through and healing trauma in a sensitive, safe environment, moving/navigating through challenging periods and transitions (such as changes in relationships, home or work), finding purpose and direction, identity crises, making meaning of and integrating spiritual experiences, or simply to help with deeper self exploration and to have support in growing into the fullness of your potential.

Spending the time to actively turn inward, explore, and connect with the deeper current of your soul life, can enable you to transform your challenges and wounds into strengths and gifts. This helps you to live a more authentic, empowered life with greater meaning, purpose and fulfilment- more aligned with your true essence and values.

If you are ready to take responsibility for your healing and your life, and step into a greater sense of agency, self empowerment and freedom, then I invite you to get in touch.
